Status Report

Jul. 21st, 2009 | 01:53 pm

I exist. I continue. In some ways, I prosper.

I'll make a proper entry at some point as soon as I have the time and energy. In the meantime, I have stopped wishing that the weather would make it's mind up. It has.

The Other Dead Dave

Jun. 5th, 2009 | 12:32 am
mood: gloomygloomy

Another icon of my youth gone. It has reached my ears that David Eddings died on the second, age 77.

A glass will be raised, as is usual, in memory of a man who co-created a whole bunch of books I still think helped me cope with school.

rRest in peace, and I hope you're with Leigh, wherever you are, David.

As that time of year rolls round again.

Jun. 4th, 2009 | 01:23 am
mood: irritatedirritated
music: AC/DC - Big Balls

It seems that it's that time of year again. The time when I have to suffer, until I can find a doctor to mitigate my suffering, so that I can breathe and see as normal.

Yes, my hayfever has made itself known once again, which means I've spent most of today sneezing and unable to do much beyond talk quite nasally. Now.. lets be fair, I probably won't get a doctors apt now at any point I can actually get there until the back end of next week at the outside, so time to be hitting Boots, I think.

In other news:

For anyone who didn't get the memo. Yes, I did myself a mischief at the last larp event I went to. Slipped, landed on my elbow, got a hairline fracture of the ball of my shoulder and quite a nasty amount of soft tissue damage in my upper arm. Yes, it hurts like buggery, yes, I'm doing my physio as I should, which is helping, but not stopping it hurting very much. It will heal. It will take a while, but it will heal, as long as I continue to not be silly at it. Of course, it's worsened again for about the last week, but thats what you get when you try and rebuild something that wasn't especially well built in the first place.

No status updates. Work continues. The rest of the world I'm sure I can explain once I'm quite sure I know just what on earth it's doing. Mild Bemusement seems to be my stock-in-trade right now.

As a BT customer, I am unimpressed.

Mar. 8th, 2009 | 04:10 pm
mood: pissed offpissed off
music: Nightwish - Symphony of Destruction

The phone conversation went something like this:

Me: "Hi, just ringing up to check when my broadband contract is ending, I have a rough idea but need to know the exact date."

BT Bod: (after usual validation stuff) "Right, that finishes on the 19th of October."

Me: "Um, no, it doesn't. That's about 5 months out."

BT: "According to this, you recontracted for a further 12 months in October 2008."

Me: "... No. No I didn't. In fact, the only times I've ever called in regarding my broadband account, you assured me in fact that my contract was the same as it always was."

It went downhill from there.

Needless to say, I am not best pleased. Actually, I'm furious. I'm just very well aware how slow the Wheel of Bureaucracy turns when dealing with complaints.

They also talk of our being guilty of injustice, and their being the victims of an unjustifiable war. Brandy, and Tom got increasingly close-mouthed and sour. Although a certain sense of tripartite society survived down to Christian times, the three classes described in the Eddic poem "Rigdthula" bear little resemblance to Dumezil's three. It is often argued, and still oftener thought, that none but bad men would desire to weaken these salutary beliefs; and there can be nothing wrong,it is thought, in restraining bad men, and prohibiting what only such men would wish to practice. At its nearest point the wall was little more than one league from the City, and that was south-eastward. When he saw Jack Hare jump towards the fire, and the Practical Man brandishing the toasting-fork, Sir Isaac grabbed the strings of gravitational force that bound Jack to his destiny and PULLED--- That's a seventy-four gun privateer, besides. To honour a group of British nobles, treacherously slain at a conference by Hengist's guards, Aurelius decides to erect a great monument near Amesbury. That being so, he did not chortle when he went upstairs. Let stand. This ensures that when the garbage collector runs, it has complete access to the memory in the heap and can perform its tasks safely without the threat of being pre-empted by another thread. And then you may begin to laugh. The data are stored in Column 1 and renamed "Age." Pull your hand back. I don't remember that any secrets were revealed to me, nor do I remember any avid curiosity on my part to learn something I wasn't supposed to--perhaps I was too young to know what to listen for. You don't remember how awful it is being normal. Highlight the desired state tax table and press Enter. Abraham had now reached a ripe old age, and the LORD had blessed him in every way. This doesn't alter either string, any more than 2+3 alters either 2 or 3. And I will say firmly that it is the author who says, "One does feel," who is really an egoist; and the author who says, "I believe," who is not an egoist. I too have noticed symptoms of the same sort of thing, a slightly put-on manner of affectation, perhaps a sort of aftermath of his fine performance in the School Play. Though there, he had always maintained, a wiser policeman would have been content with a mere reprimand. Here, PE was mandatory for all four years. Just two weeks after the world's first sky-jack, Wong Yu signed a confession and was executed. We all slept four or five to a hut, though none but Nimue and Morgan were allowed into the hall's inner chambers. At the range of temperatures found at the surface of the Earth, water can exist as a gas (water vapour), as a liquid, and as a solid (ice). In case C, two Space Marines have a clear shot to the majority of the models in the target unit and two Space Marines do not.  Yet of the King himself I remember nothing between his untimely attack of appendicitis, and the pious elegy in the best Victorian manner which I produced at school when my form was told to write a poem in memory of his passing. 'Advance himself, commissar - or advance, himself?'
